As senior director and publisher for news and public affairs at PBS.org, Tom is responsible for all content, funding and business decisions affecting the project. He has worked in and around the news since he first stumbled into a weekly-newspaper newsroom as a 15-year-old in the Minneapolis suburbs. Since then -- a period of time longer than he cares to think about -- he has been a reporter, editor and digital-business leader. Before joining PBS, Tom served as Northeast vice president for content at Tribune Interactive; general manager of web sites for Tribune's Sun-Sentinel.com in South Florida and dailypress.com in Virginia; and spent a dozen years in the newsroom at the Sun-Sentinel, culminating as city editor. Later, he served as a consultant to academic institutions and a pair of digital-media startups. In 1998, he was awarded a Knight Fellowship at Stanford, where he studied the economics of the Internet and digital technologies. He's married to the author and reporter Sue Corbett; they have three children.
